History ::

The 1st Festival of Choreographic Miniatures was held in 1997, in the National Theater, Belgrade.

The Festival of Choreographic Miniatures is an international competition of choreographers, and it is unique in this region as such. Interest for participation at the Festival has been shown by many countries: Holland, France, Canada, Italy, Portugal, Hungaria, Austria, Romania, Macedonia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, France, Korea... Since its foundation, the Festival has offered unique opportunity to a large number of young choreographers to promote their choreographic style, ideas and method of work. To many competitors, the Festival has created a chance to begin further independent choreographic work. Some of the first Festival laureates are today established choreographers, who set their choreographers successfully on stages throughout our country and take part in education of the forthcoming generations of dancers and choreographers.

The 2nd Evening, introduced in 2002, is held on the last festival day and represents its closure, where Festival guests and laureates of the competition take part.

The idea and concept of the Festival, were set by a group of ballet artists gathered around the then president of the Association, Višnja Đorđević. Organization of the following Festivals, lead by the next UBUS president, Risto Mihić, were on the course of the same idea. The heritage of the improved Festival and the responsibility for its progress was then taken over by Sonja Lapatanov, the current UBUS President and the Festival Director.

The Festival Founders are the Association of Ballet Artists of Serbia and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia. Throughout its history, significant financial support to the Festival was also provided by the City Secretariat for Culture of the City of Belgrade, whereas the National Theater, Belgrade has provided ten years of its hospitality to this event.
